The view of Kibo from across the plateau is an amazing view at this point.
Shira 2 Camp is a spectacular calp located beneath the Northern Ice Fields of Kilimanjaro.
It is a gentle walk east toward Kibo’s Glacier Peak across the plateau which leads to Shira 2 Camp on Moorland Meadows by the stream which is available on Lent Hills making this an excellent acclimatization opportunity.
Shira is one of the highest plateaus on earth. Dinner and overnight at Shira 2 Camp
Following an early morning breakfast, you will leave the moorland environment and enter the semi desert and rocky landscape.
After 5hrs of walking east, you will come face to face with Lava Tower standing at 4600m.

At this point, it is normal to start feeling the effects from the altitude including headache and shortness of breath.
After lunch, you will descend from Lava Tower to Barranco Camp.
The 650m descent gives hikers a huge advantage to allow their bodies to adjust to the conditions of high altitude.
The descent to the camp takes around 2hrs and it is located in a valley below the Breach and The Great Barranco Wall (Breakfast Wall)
Drinking and washing water will be arranged and dinner shall be served whilst you are viewing the sunset.
This is a short hiking day meant for acclimatization.

The word Barafu means ICE in Swahili and this camp is located on a rocky and exposed ridge.
Tents will be exposed to wind and rocks, so it is important for hikers to familiarize themselves with the campsite before dark.
