Day 1 – Kilimanjaro Airport to Arusha Town

Arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport, after going through immigration and customs you meet our driver outside at the arrivals area. He then transfers you to Arusha Town. After checking in, you will have a briefing regarding the climb and if you have any questions or clarification you can ask the Head Guide then when he meets you. Overnight at Venus Premier Hotel (BB)

COMMUTE TIME: Drive from Kilimanjaro Airport to Arusha Town is about 1hr and 30mins.

Day 2 – Arusha Town to Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

After breakfast, you are transferred to Machame Gate. After finishing the formalities at the gate you start your climb at around 1200hrs.

  • Elevation (m) – 1200 to 1800 to 2700
  • Distance – About 9kms
  • Hiking Time – 5 to 6 hrs
  • Habitat – Rainforest

    • The drive from Arusha Town to Marangu Gate is about 4hrs. After finishing the formalities at the gate we start our journey through the fascinating tropical rainforest. We reach Mandara Hut which is the first hut. Dinner and Overnight at Mandara Hut (DBL)

    Day 3 – Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

    After breakfast, you are transferred to Machame Gate. After finishing the formalities at the gate you start your climb at around 1200hrs.

  • Elevation (m) – 2700 to 3720
  • Distance – About 12kms
  • Hiking Time – 6 to 7 hrs
  • Habitat – Moorland

    • Today the first part of the walk is a steep ascent through the forest which opens out to Moorland habitat where in clear weather you can view Kibo and Mawezi Peak.
    You arrive at Horombo Hut during the mid afternoon and you enjoy the stunning views around the camp. Rest, Dinner and Overnight at Horombo Hut (DBL)

    Day 4 – Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

  • Elevation (m) – 3720 to 4700
  • Distance – About 8kms
  • Hiking Time – 6 to 7 hrs
  • Habitat – Alpine Desert

    • Today we climb very gradually towards the Lunar Desert of the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. These 6 to 7hrs walking will be taken at a slow pace until we reach Kibo Hut which stands at 4700m.

    Please note that there is no running water at Kibo Hut.
    The remainder of the day is spent relaxing in preparation for the final ascent before a very early night

    Day 5 – Kibo Hut to Summit to Horombo Hut

  • Elevation (m) – 4700 to 5895 to 3720
  • Distance – About 6kms ascent and 14kms descent
  • Hiking Time – 5 to 6 hrs ascent and 5hrs descent
  • Habitat – Arctic / Desert

    • You wake up just before midnight and begin the steep climb over a loose volcanic scree which has some well graded zig zag path at a slow but steady pace. This will take you to the rim of the main crater called GILMANS POINT which stands at 5686m.

    After resting for a few minutes, you enjoy the sunrise over the Mawenzi and those who still feel good to continue shall slowly make their way to Uhuru Peak at 5895m. This route is a 3hr round trip journey.

    After a few minutes to appreciate the accomplishment, we descend towards Kibo Hut which will be amazingly fast. After refreshments at Kibo Hut, you continue to descend towards Horombo Hut.

    Day 6 – Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate to Arusha Town

  • Elevation (m) – 3720 to 1800 to 1200
  • Distance – About 21kms
  • Hiking Time – 6 to 7 hrs
  • Habitat – Forest

    • Today we descent past Mandara Hut whilst on your way to Marangu National Park. Successful climbers will receive their certificates and after that you shall be transferred to your hotel in Arusha.
